Plotting Super Eagles exit? Eric Chelle changes agency amid rumours he wants to dump Nigeria
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has officially signed with a new sports agency to manage his career representation moving forward.
While the Malian has publicly focused on his duties in Nigeria, the timing of this move has ignited a wildfire of speculation regarding his future with the three-time African champions.
Strategic move or warning sign?
The decision to change representation comes at a delicate time for Nigerian football. Following a successful third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Chelle’s stock has never been higher on the continent.
Rumours have been swirling for weeks that the Franco-Malian tactician is weighing his options following serious interest from Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille, who have reportedly placed Chelle on their shortlist for a potential return to French club football.
By bringing in a new agency, Chelle appears to be positioning himself for high-level negotiations, whether that means an improved deal with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) or a smooth exit to a new destination.
Despite the noise, the NFF has remained adamant that their man is going nowhere. NFF President Ibrahim Gusau recently addressed the growing exit rumours, insisting that the federation has full confidence in the coach.

“We still have a one-year contract with Eric, and therefore whatever interest anybody will show on him, he has to wait until his contract expires,” Gusau stated. “He has so much belief in the Super Eagles, and he has every confidence that he can achieve all his dreams with the team.”
A critical juncture
Chelle’s tenure has been marked by a significant tactical transformation, winning the hearts of fans and senior players like Wilfred Ndidi. However, the allure of a World Cup berth with another nation or a prestigious role in Europe may prove difficult to ignore.
As it stands, the "matter is well and truly closed" according to the federation, but the arrival of a new agency suggests that the conversation around Eric Chelle’s future is only just beginning.
