Mamelodi Sundowns fans might have to wait a little longer for the return of former coach Pitso Mosimane.

This is because the tactician has still not reached an agreement with the PSL champions despite talks ongoing since January and there is a multimillion dispute delaying his possible comeback.

According to SoccerBeat’s Peter du Toit, a court case in which Mosimane was ordered to pay Sundowns colossal amount has held back a possible return for the tactician, who won several trophies, including five league titles and a CAF Champions League during his sting between 2012 and 2020.

When he left Sundowns for Egyptian giants Al Ahly in September 2020, Sundowns went to court seeking to be paid an agent’s commission totaling R8 million (Ksh62 million) they had paid the coach after he had agreed a new contract a few months earlier and in August 2025, Mosimane lost the case.

What is Holding Back Talks with Mosimane?

The court ordered Mosimane to pay R7,912,905 (Ksh61.7 million) in agent commission fees, plus 7% annual interest calculated from May 10, 2021, until the payment is settled after Sundowns initiated the case to reclaim a portion of the agent’s commission paid to MT Sports, the tactician’s management company, after he departed for Al Ahly, just four months into a new four-year contract with the South African giants.

“I am told that one of the reasons why the Pitso Mosimane deal did not go through, or as yet has not gone through, is because of the court case,” said Du Toit.

“And while the court case is still going on and it is about money, it is very difficult to negotiate terms. That sounds logical, obviously the people who could give the right answer is Pitso, his agent, who is his wife Moira, or the club.”

Du Toit believes the Mosimane-Sundowns affair is still very much on the cards and could be rekindled soon if the two parties agree to a settlement.

Pitso’s Possible Return Piles Pressure on Cardoso

“What is interesting is that we have not got a statement from either which lends me to believe that this is fact because Moira, the agent, would have said there have been no talks whatsoever and Pitso is not going to Sundowns, Pitso would have said that himself and the club would have said, we have heard these rumours but we will back the [current] coach,” he added.

News of Mosimane’s possible return has piled pressure on current Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso who has faced criticism from fans over his team’s style of play while results have also not been very consistent.

Cardoso will be under severe pressure if his team fails to win their CAF Champions League match against Congolese side St Eloi Lupopo on Sunday as that would leave them either in third or fourth place in their group and facing elimination heading into the final match next weekend.
