Osimhen, who plays for Galatasaray and is often compared to his football idol Didier Drogba for his combination of pace, has continued to demonstrate his reputation as one of Africa’s most lethal forwards.

Speaking with ESPN, Moreno hailed Osimhen’s ability to deliver when it matters most.

“All I know is that when they needed him to score big goals, Nigeria, the last time against Benin, hat-trick,” Moreno said.

He added, “I don’t know where he’s playing or where he’s not playing, he’s a goalscorer.”

The former MLS and Venezuela national team star added that Osimhen’s consistency will be key for a Nigerian side still trying to stabilise after recent controversies and underwhelming performances.

“I think it is going to be critical for Nigeria that he continues to perform at this level, because this team, in chaos, they strive, but it’s looking like it is going to be stressful to get all the way to the World Cup,” Moreno concluded.

The Super Eagles are set to face Gabon in a crucial World Cup qualifying tie at the Complexe Sportif Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan, as they seek to secure a place in the intercontinental playoffs for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
