Osimhen vs Ronaldo: Nigeria to battle Portugal and Lewandowski’s Poland in June
Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles will lock horns with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal and Robert Lewandowski’s Poland in two high-profile friendlies in June as Nigeria continue their rebuild following a second successive failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The Nigerian Football Federation has scheduled the prestigious double-header to maintain competitive edge and build momentum ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The first set of warm-up matches took place last weekend in Turkey, where the Super Eagles beat Iran 2-1, before drawing 2-2 with Jordan on March 31.
These clashes against two European heavyweights, Portugal on June 6 in Lisbon and Poland a few days later, will offer the perfect litmus test of how far Chelle has taken the team since his appointment.
With Victor Osimhen leading the line in sensational form for Galatasaray, Nigeria will relish the chance to measure themselves against the likes of Ronaldo, Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes and a host of others.
The last time Nigeria faced Portugal, in a 2022 friendly in Lisbon, the Super Eagles were comfortably beaten 4-0, with Bruno Fernandes scoring twice.
This June encounter therefore presents a golden opportunity for revenge and a clear benchmark of progress under Chelle.
For Portugal, this clash is vital last minute assessment as they stay sharp ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Coach Roberto Martínez will use the fixture to fine-tune tactics and give key players minutes without risking fatigue so close to the tournament.
