Osimhen set to become highest paid player in Napoli with new contract
Victor Osimhen's contract renewal with Napoli is reportedly imminent and will be a lucrative deal that effectively makes him the highest-earning player for the Naples-based club.
The 24-year-old led Napoli to the Scudetto last season, winning the Capocannoniere for his efforts. This has made him the subject of interest from a number of clubs, including a reported lucrative bid from Saudi Arabia.
However, Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has expressed his desire to keep the Super Eagles striker, warding off interest.
He is now set to offer him a bumper contract, which reportedly includes a release clause that opens the possibility of the former Wolfsburg striker getting his dream move to the Premier League.
Details of the contract
According to Italian transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Osimhen's contract, which expires in 2025, is close to renewal, extending the expiry date till 2026.
Per the report, the details and figures have been ironed out, with only the appropriate signatures remaining for the renewal to be confirmed.
He is expected to get a significant pay bump from his current wages. His new salary, according to the report, will be around €10 million, effectively making him the highest-paid player in the squad.
Also, there would be a release clause in the contract of €150 million; however, Italian teams will be unable to trigger this option until at least the summer of 2025.
The contract, as has been reported, allows I Partenopei to keep their best player from a title-winning campaign for at least one more season while giving the player a chance to get a well-earned career step up.
