Sad news struck the Nigerian football community as Sodiq Adebisi, a footballer from Ogun State, slumped and died during a training session at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode on Saturday.

Teammates Rush Player to Hospital

Adebisi was reportedly training with other players when the incident occurred. Witnessing their 34-year-old teammate collapse, his fellow footballers promptly rushed him to a state hospital in Ijebu-Ode.

Hospital Efforts Prove Unsuccessful

Despite valiant efforts from medical professionals at the hospital, Adebisi was unfortunately pronounced dead on the same day.

Family Requests Burial Without Investigation

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident on Tuesday and revealed that the deceased's brother, Ganiyu Adebisi, had approached the Igbeba Police Division to claim the body for burial.

Adebisi's family has expressed their wish to lay their loved one to rest according to Islamic rites and have declined further investigation into the cause of his death.
