Jackson, 24, had already been given permission to travel to Germany to complete his medical with the Bundesliga champions, but according to The Athletic, he has now been ordered to return to the club.

The injury to Delap, who signed from Ipswich Town for £30 million this summer, left Chelsea with just Joao Pedro as the club's only recognized striker.

"When you have two strikers, it is enough; when one of them is injured for weeks, it is not enough,” Maresca said.

“Today we played for more than one hour with Tyrique and he did brilliant."

Jackson had pushed for an exit after seeing his game time severely diminished after the arrival of Delap before the FIFA Club World Cup. Now the former Villarreal man must return to Stamford Bridge and fight for his shirt before Delap returns from injury.
