Having had a good October, when his two goals helped deliver Power Dynamos to the CAF Champions League group stages, Shumah has started November in great fashion as his goal earned his team not just all three points but derby bragging rights.

Power Dynamos faced off with rivals Zesco United at the Arthur Davies Stadium on Wednesday 48 hours after both sides had learned their fate in the CAF inter-club group stage draw conducted on Monday.

Shumah Scores and Then Misses Penalty

The reigning Zambian champions needed just eight minutes to break the deadlock as Shumah netted his third goal of the season with a clinical strike.

Moments later, Power Dynamos had another opportunity to double their lead when they were awarded a penalty after Zesco defender Kabaso Chongo fouled Daniel Adoko. Shumah stepped up to take it, but his effort was saved by Philip Sakauta, keeping Zesco in the game.

Sakauta’s fine saves denied Power Dynamos more chances to extend their lead but the champions held on to claim all three points.

Kitwe Derby Up Next for Power Dynamos

“We needed the result, we needed to push on the ladder. We knew that it was going to be a tough game,” said Power Dynamos coach Osward Mutapa.

Victory pushed Power Dynamos to fourth place on the Zambian Premier League standings with 17 points from eight games, four behind leaders Red Arrows, who have played a game more.

Power Dynamos have a tough match coming up at the weekend as they travel to Levy Mwanawasa Stadium to face off with Nkana in the Kitwe Derby.
