Shumah was instrumental in the second preliminary round of Power Dynamos’ Champions League campaign as his goals saw them eliminate Ugandan champions Vipers.

The former Kakamega Homeboyz striker was on target on Friday as Power Dynamos drew 1-1 with Vipers to secure a 3-2 win on aggregate after they had won 2-1 in Kampala last week.

During the game, Power Dynamos had a goal disallowed in the 14th minute when Frederick Mulambia was judged to have handled the ball before scoring.

Shumah would strike in the 68th minute of the second leg tie in Ndola before Karim Watambala equalised for Vipers 10 minutes from time but it was too little too late for the Ugandan side.

The Harambee Stars striker had scored a brilliant goal in the first leg when Power Dynamos won 2-1 with Vipers scoring an own goal to help the Zambian side gain two away goals.

Shumah therefore scored two of the three goals for Power Dynamos who have made it to the group stages for the first time, a historic feat for the club and country.

It is not just history but Power Dynamos have also significantly boosted their bank balance as group stage qualification will see them earn $700,000 (Ksh90 million).

“Benchmarks change, we wanted the group stages, now we are there and we want the quarter-final. We cannot choose who we will get in the group when the draw is made, we will not hide,” said Power Dynamos coach Osward Mutapa.

“The ambition of the team this season was to defend the league, play the Absa Cup, which were knocked out in the semi-final, and try and reach the group stage which we have achieved and now we have to aim higher.”
