More Nigerians? Fulham eye N30.9bn move for ex-Baller of the Week to join Super Eagles duo Iwobi and Bassey

Premier League side Fulham are reportedly targeting former Naija Stars Abroad Baller of the Week Philip Otele as they plot a third Super Eagles signing to join Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey in their ambitious West London project.

According to a BBC Sports report, the Cottagers have intensified their interest in FC Basel winger Otele ahead of the transfer deadline. 

Scouts have been dispatched to gather detailed information on the 26-year-old Nigerian’s availability and the terms needed to complete a deal.

Otele, currently in the Swiss Super League, is believed to be valued at around £15 million, a more affordable option compared to other targets such as Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Kevin, who commands over £43 million amid stalled negotiations.

The Nigerian winger has made a name for himself this season with two goals and two assists in the Swiss top flight. His diverse career includes spells in Lithuania, Romania, and the UAE, as well as a trial at Arsenal as a 14-year-old, showing his early potential.

Earlier this year, Otele stunned football fans by outshining Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen and Super Falcons star Jennifer Echegini after a stunning 4-0 rout of FC Zurich. 

The 25-year-old’s two goals and assist for star teammate Xherdan Shaqiri earned him the Baller of the Week crown from Naija Stars Abroad, highlighting his rising stock.

Fulham’s interest in Otele comes as they look to strengthen an already Nigerian-flavoured squad featuring Iwobi and Bassey. 

The club’s ambition to expand their African talent quota is clear as they seek to improve their Premier League standing.
