Missed chance, not last chance - Inter star backs Nerazzurri to return to Champions League final
Marcus Thuram has reflected on Inter Milan's demanding season, culminating in their Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite the 5-0 loss, Thuram views the outcome as a fair reflection of facing the world's best team on an off day for the Nerazzurri.
What Thuram said
The Franchman emphasised the significance of Inter's journey rather than solely focusing on the final result.
Thuram believes the Serie A giant’s strong performances against top teams like Barcelona and Bayern Munich demonstrate their growth throughout the Champions League campaign, asserting that the final does not define their entire season.
“I don’t think someone who watches football — soccer, however you want to call it — will remember our team on the last game because we put in great displays against great teams like Barcelona and Bayern Munich,” Thuram told The Athletic.
“I don’t think (the Champions League final) is the last chance. Almost more than three-quarters of the team that played the Champions League final are still under contract with Inter, so I don’t think it’s the last chance. I don’t think we saw it as the last chance.
“We were just sad to lose the final, losing it in that way and missing a big opportunity that could have added a great line in our career… We still have a lot of seasons. I still have a lot of seasons at Inter. It was not the last chance. It was a missed chance.”
