Liverpool and England legend Jamie Carragher has gone viral due to his latest statement.

After another goal and assist in a 2-0 victory over Manchester City, Carragher was talking about Mohamed Salah's form at the time when the topic shifted to his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or.

The Egyptian has never placed higher than sixth in the Ballon d'Or but is presently the favourite to win the largest individual prize.

Super Eagles of Nigeria legend Mikel Obi has now responded to the AFCON downgrade by Carragher.

In the latest episode of his podcast, Obi explained the importance of the AFCON to the continent.

He said, "You don't know what it takes to win with your national team

"You can't discredit such a wonderful tournament.

"People in Africa die for the Africa Cup of Nations.

"Children, kids grow up watching their idols, watching their country, supporting their country.

"Because the Africa Cup of Nations is what inspires them, the next generation.

"The influx of African Player coming into the Premier League, coming to Europe to play is because they grew up watching the African Cup of Nations."

Mikel's defence of the AFCON has gone viral with out African legends coming out to make a statement.
