The Finalissima is a Super Cup-type match organised as a joint effort between UEFA and CONMEBOL. The fixture pits the winner of the most recent edition of the European Championship against the Copa America champion.

The last edition of the Finalissima was held in 2022, when Argentina, as the Copa America champion, faced Italy, who won EURO 2020. The Albiceleste were resounding victors, beating the Italians 3-0 to win the Finalissima.

According to UEFA’s website, UEFA, CONMEBOL, the AFA, and the RFEF held a meeting yesterday in Asuncion, Paraguay. They discussed the Finalissima and agreed that the match would take place.

However, they are yet to announce the date for the match, stating that the details will be communicated at a later date. However, they have now dispelled doubts that the busy fixture calendar will prevent that competition from holding.

The match will pit Lionel Messi, legendary captain of Argentina and Barcelona’s all-time top scorer, against Lamine Yamal, who has taken the mantle of ‘best player’ at the Camp Nou—or Montjuic until constructions are done.
