Manchester United are expected to be in the market for defensive additions in the summer, and they have reportedly set their sights on AS Monaco's Axel Disasi.

The 25-year-old has been impressive for Les Rouges et Blanc, attracting suitors from top European teams. The Red Devils are now reported to be the most likely to land the France international.

Football Insider reported recently that Manchester United are leading the race for the signature of the French-Congolese ahead of the summer transfer window.

The three-time Champions League winners have reportedly sent scouts on multiple occasions to watch the defender in action for Monaco this season, and they are said to have been impressed with his quality.

The futures of Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, and Eric Baily are reportedly up in the air, and Erik ten Hag is keen on bringing in Disasi, who is also capable of playing at right-back as he has done on occasions this season, making him a fix for two problem positions, as Wan Bissaka's continuation is also uncertain. 

The Red Devils are ahead in the race, but they are expected to face competition from Manchester City and Chelsea, who are also keeping tabs on the centre-back.

The former Reims man has made 41 appearances for Monaco this season, scoring six times and notching four assists. The defender's contract expires in the summer of 2025, and Monaco are expected to be open to a sale to avoid risking losing him on a free transfer.

The 21-year-old has not played for the Red Devils since early 2022 when he was accused of rape and sexual abuse. The charges against him have since been dropped; however, he is still yet to return to training, with his future at the club in doubt.
