Man United fans reject Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi links: 'No way, let's be serious, please'
The Theatre of Dreams has quickly turned into a theatre of disbelief for Manchester United supporters following reports linking Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi with a January move to Old Trafford.
Despite Ndidi’s resurgence at Besiktas and his leadership during Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 bronze-medal run, the United faithful are demanding that new head coach Michael Carrick set his sights much higher.
The speculation intensified after reports suggested United had opened exploratory talks with Besiktas to bring the 29-year-old back to the Premier League.
However, fans have flooded social media to dismiss the news, with many pointing fingers at the source of the rumours, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.
“Let’s be serious please”
For a fanbase still buzzing from a 2–0 derby victory over Manchester City in Carrick’s first game back, the prospect of signing a player they perceive as a mid-table solution has been met with cold rejection.
“Crazy how y’all are listening to a crook,” one fan posted, referencing journalist Alex Crook’s report. “Wetin dey worry this club abeg? What is all this nonsense?” another stated.
The sentiment reflects a deep-seated desire for "category A" signings like Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson, or Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.
Supporters argue that while Ndidi was a reliable engine for Leicester City, he lacks the world-class ceiling required to anchor a midfield alongside Kobbie Mainoo.

“What happened to Wharton and Baleba? Why am I seeing Loftus-Cheek and Ndidi being discussed by Man Utd?” questioned another supporter, highlighting a growing fear that the club is settling for "stop-gap" mediocrity.
The AFCON Glow vs. Fan Reality
Ndidi’s stock in Africa is arguably at an all-time high. Having captained Nigeria to a podium finish in Morocco and publicly backed coach Eric Chelle for continuity, his leadership qualities are undeniable. Yet, United fans are looking at the cold hard facts of his current career path:
The Turkey Factor: Fans are wary of a player who moved to the Turkish Super Lig just months ago, viewing it as a step down from the elite level.
The brutal rejection highlights the gulf between international credentials and the expectations of a club eyeing a return to the Champions League.
Many supporters have also labelled the story a "big fake rumour" designed to generate clicks during a quiet period for the club.
Carrick’s midfield puzzle
With veterans like Casemiro approaching the end of their tenure, Manchester United’s need for a defensive anchor is desperate.
However, the fans have sent a clear message to the INEOS ownership: they would rather wait for the right target than rush into a deal for a player they’ve already written off.
As the February 2nd transfer deadline approaches, it remains to be seen if Carrick will persist with the Premier League experience strategy or pivot toward the younger, high-potential stars the fans are clamoring for.
For now, the verdict on Ndidi is clear: Red Devils fans aren't buying it.
