The former African Footballer of the Year has been instrumental, scoring four goals and two assists while leading the team's defensive press from the front.

His leadership was also on display as he captained the team against Mozambique and again in the critical semi-final clash with Morocco, filling in for the suspended Ndidi.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the third-place playoff against Egypt, Ndidi praised the striker's global standing and influence on the team.

"Osimhen is one of the best strikers in the world," he said. "If you see someone like Osimhen in front of you, of course he carries the team. He's a great player. We'll miss him if he's not on the pitch, so that's normal."

Looking to the future, the captain added, "Eric Chelle has made it a team thing. Watch out for this team in the next couple of years."

Osimhen was unable to participate in the penalty shootout during the semi-final loss to Morocco after being substituted late in extra time due to an ankle injury.
