Brentford had earlier moments of promise but were unable to convert pressure into clear chances. Abdukodir Khusanov looked fortunate to stay on the pitch after a last-man foul on Kevin Schade; he received only a yellow despite Brentford appealing for a red card.
City doubled their advantage in the 67th minute. Savinho’s shot took a deflection off a Brentford defender and looped into the net, giving Guardiola’s side a comfortable two-goal cushion and effectively ending any hope of a Brentford comeback on the night.
