Fiorentina capitalise on Maduka Okoye red card to secure first Serie A win
Fiorentina almost capitalised immediately when Rolando Mandragora’s free-kick clipped the top of the bar, before Albert Guðmundsson also struck the woodwork when his shot from the edge of the box hit the post.
La Viola would not wait much longer for the breakthrough though as Mandragova was on target with a free-kick this time, striking through a disappointing wall.
Guðmundsson then netted his sixth goal this term with a beautiful finish after turning away from his defender, before Cher Ndour made it three before HT after heading home Nicolò Fagioli’s cross.
Moise Keanscored a second-half brace to put the result beyond doubt, while Oumar Solet scored a consolation goal for the visitors.
Okoye's sending-off will have done nothing to help his cause after being left out of Eric Chelle's Super Eagles squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
