how it happened

Buoyed by their victory against Rakow in the UEFA Europa League midweek, Atalanta came into today's game confident, and it was evident in their bright start.

La Dea, playing at the Gewiss Stadium, pressed high early on, creating chances, but they had to wait until the 33rd minute for a brilliant strike by their talisman Ademola Lookman to break the deadlock.

Cagliari pushed for an equaliser towards the end of the half, but the hosts kept their lead into the break.

The visitors continued from where they stopped before the referee blew for halftime, searching for an equaliser, but despite their strong showing, it was Atalanta who got the next goal in the game, thanks to a Mario Pasalic strike.

Gian Pierro Gasperini's men managed the game effectively from then on, as they confirmed another three points in the bag.
