Konate’s struggles

Liverpool have struggled defensively this season, and Konate has been one of the chief culprits. He has had high-profile gaffes in big Premier League games against Newcastle and Manchester City and in the Champions League defeats to Galatasaray and the recent 4-1 loss to PSV.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher slammed Arne Slot for continuing to start Konate amid the mistakes, saying, "Honest to god, I've had enough of them. That Konate, I mean, that's a sackable offense for the manager for f******g keep picking him. He should be sacked for that.”

Konate’s reaction

The former Leipzig defender put out a statement on social media stating that he is taking the criticism in his stride while promising to improve.

"We have to take this moment on the chest. Criticism is part of football, and we’ll fight back every time and come through this storm. In these moments, the fans matter most,” he said on Instagram.

“The ones who stand with us in the good times and the bad—the ones who sing for us even in the difficult moments! Your voice and your support mean everything to us. We know we need to improve, and we’ll keep fighting for you. Always.”

Meanwhile, Konate’s Liverpool contract expires at the end of the current season, as he has rejected renewal offers from the Reds. Real Madrid are interested in signing him on a free transfer, and there are suggestions that his contract situation is directly contributing to his poor form on the pitch.
