Lewandowski does not want to be Osimhen's back up — Expert explains how proposed transfer falls through
Robert Lewandowski's future is up in the air. While he has been linked with a move for Galatasaray in recent weeks, Turkish journalist Ertem Sener explained why the Polish striker is not considering the Cim-Bom option.
Pulse Sports reported a few weeks ago that Barcelona had decided not to renew Lewandowski's contract when it expires at the end of the current campaign, with his agent Pini Zahavi confirming as much, stating that talks were not being held.
He has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, Atletico Madrid in LALIGA and recently, Galatasaray. However, the former Borussia Dortmund forward is keeping his options open.
Why Galatasaray want Lewandowski
The Turkish champions are the most dominant force in the Super Lig, having won the title 25 times. They seek European domination, or at least consistency, as evidenced by their acquisitions in recent transfer windows, which culminated in the signing of Victor Osimhen.
They want to add more forwards to their ranks, especially with Mauro Icardi’s dissatisfaction with his current role as Osimhen's deputy and alleged €10 million wage demands.
"Mauro Icardi's agent is reportedly demanding a €10 million salary and a three-year contract. These demands are very high,” Sener reported. Como and Milan are monitoring him. I don't think he can play under these conditions.”
They have been linked with Benfica’s Pavlovic and Super Eagles' Ademola Lookman. Lewandowski is also a target, albeit a distant one at the time.
Why not Galatasaray for Lewandowski
According to Sener, the Poland international, who is Barcelona's current first-choice striker, does not want to be a backup to Victor Osimhen, and as such, is not considering the Galatasaray route.
“I don't think Lewandowski will be at Galatasaray. He'll be Osimhen's backup. He could be in the starting eleven at Fenerbahçe," he said.
Interestingly, Barcelona are keen on Victor Osimhen, and they have him high on their list of potential replacements for Lewandowski after having discussed him internally.
