Let us do it for Awoniyi — Forest boss Nuno gives players huge motivation to defeat Chelsea
Nottingham Forest take on Chelsea this Sunday in their final Premier League game, aiming to secure a place in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 1981.
Forest in seventh, need a win against the Blues, and for either Newcastle or Aston Villa to drop points, in order to lock in a fifth-placed finish. This would mark an extraordinary feat for a club that fought to stay in the Premier League last season.
Nuno has further inspired his squad by urging them to dedicate a strong season finale to striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
The Nigerian suffered a serious abdominal injury after hitting a post in their recent draw against Leicester, requiring surgery and an induced coma for recovery.
The team showed support by wearing T-shirts with Awoniyi’s name and number during the warm-up before last week’s win at West Ham.
“It’s going to be for Taiwo. He’s not going to be with us. It was a big issue what happened to him, and it’s in our minds,” Nuno told reporters on Friday.
“We want to see him totally healthy, enjoying the group, so it’s going to be for Taiwo again. For him, for us, for the fans, for the city, for everybody."
Should results elsewhere prevent Forest from reaching the Champions League, beating Chelsea could still earn them a Europa League spot.
