LALIGA president backs Alonso to survive at Real Madrid
LALIGA president Javier Tebas has backed Real Madrid's head coach Xabi Alonso to turn Los Blancos’ fortune around after recent poor results have cast doubt over his future at the Bernabeu.
Real Madrid’s slump
Real Madrid’s season has hit an alarming dip, having managed only two wins in their last eight matches in all competitions, leaving them second in LaLiga, four points behind Barcelona
They have also suffered key defeats in the Champions League, losing to Premier League sides Liverpool and Manchester City. The recent 2–1 home loss to Manchester City was particularly devastating, as it came after a 2–0 league defeat to Celta Vigo.
That decline has fed rumours about Alonso’s future and whispers of a possible sack if results do not improve quickly. His situation is not helped by reports of a fractured dressing room, with star players like Vinicius unsatisfied with his leadership.
What Tebas said
The LALIGA president and confessed Real Madrid fan recently commented on the situation, expressing confidence in Alonso's ability to turn the situation around.
"I have seen this movie many times before,” he said, per Goal. “Real Madrid is a team that knows how to overcome situations.
“Xabi Alonso has Madrid DNA, and I believe that he, the players and the club will move forward. They have had that mentality since they were children, and Xabi has lived it from home."
