Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has described Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson as a “luxury” asset for the German champions, praising the striker’s efficiency and professionalism despite limited starting opportunities this season.

Jackson, who joined Bayern on a season-long loan from Chelsea on deadline day for a reported £14.2 million, has gradually begun to win over doubters at the Allianz Arena.

What Kompany said

While his arrival was initially met with skepticism from sections of the Bayern fanbase, Kompany believes the Senegal international has delivered when it matters most.

“I have a very positive impression of Nicolas,” Kompany told reporters.

He added, “He’s helped us a lot—his goals-per-minute ratio is good. Of course, with Harry Kane up front, you have a bit of competition, and that’s part of the game.”

The 24-year-old forward faces stiff competition in a star-studded Bayern attack that includes Harry Kane, Luis Díaz, and Michael Olise.

As a result, Jackson has started just six of his 17 appearances across all competitions.

Despite limited minutes, 525 in total, Jackson has scored five goals, underlining his effectiveness as an impact substitute rather than a regular starter.

“So, as a coach, it’s a real luxury to see how Nicolas is handling that,” Kompany continued. “What many people don’t see is what Nicolas does in training and every time he comes on.”

The Bayern boss also referenced a recent Champions League fixture as an example of Jackson’s readiness.

“Against Sporting, I was planning to sub him on, but then Lenny scored, and I had a completely different game plan. Hopefully, he’ll continue to capitalise on the chances he gets.”

Kompany also confirmed that Jackson will soon leave Munich to join Senegal for the Africa Cup of Nations, which begins on December 21 in Morocco.

“My understanding is that he will travel after the game against Mainz,” Kompany said. “We hope he goes as far as possible. Of course, I hope Congo will win the cup, but otherwise I wish him all the best. The importance of this competition for African players shouldn’t be underestimated.”

Jackson’s final appearance for Bayern before the winter break is expected to come in Sunday’s Bundesliga clash against Mainz.

Bayern also faces Heidenheim on December 21 before the league pauses.
