Speaking in a pre-game press conference, Kompany credited his opponents but insisted his team had only one goal in mind.

“We respect Auckland City – they are well-organised, play with intensity, and will be compact on the pitch.

"We've analysed their recent matches and are aware that while they are semi-professional, they can still cause problems. We must remain fully focused on ourselves,” said Kompany.

Bayern are aiming to add this trophy to their Bundesliga title, and perhaps make up for their failure to win the UEFA Champions League.

Kompany is clear that winning is the only objective.

“At Bayern Munich, expectations are always at the highest level. Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City, Boca Juniors – we all share the same ambition.
