It will be tough — Ekitike says he is ready to fight Isak for Liverpool striker slot
Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike has strapped his boots in preparation for the competition, with Alexander Isak as the main centre-forward for the Reds.
The 23-year-old joined the Premier League champions for €80 million from Frankfurt and has settled nicely in the Premier League, scoring two goals and providing an assist.
However, he could soon be relegated to second-choice forward, as Liverpool shattered the British transfer record by completing the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United on deadline day.
What Ekitike said
The former Paris Saint-Germain man is currently on international duty with France, where he was quizzed about the competition with Isak. Ekitike relishes playing with Isak, but instead of viewing it as a rivalry, he views it as a mutually beneficial competition.
“When you play for the best teams, you inevitably expect to be competing with the best players, and Isak is among them,” he said, per Fabrizio.
“Seeing him arrive is a pleasure. It's going to be tough competition, but I'm going to work hard to be good and perform at my best.”
He joined the Parisian giants from Reims just as he turned 20 but managed only 33 appearances and four goals before being sent on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt after a season and a half.
PSG subsequently sold him to the German club for €31.5 million. This summer, Liverpool acquired him for more than three times that amount, at €95 million.
