‘It was a crazy game' - Super Eagles star Chukwueze reacts after scoring twice in 9-goal thriller
Fulham winger Samuel Chukwueze has applauded his team’s resilience and character despite falling short in a dramatic 5–4 defeat to Manchester City at Craven Cottage on Tuesday night.
The Nigerian international delivered his best performance yet in a Fulham shirt, scoring two goals and leading a spirited second-half fightback in a chaotic nine-goal encounter.
What Chukwueze said
Speaking to Fulham’s official website after the match, Chukwueze admitted the result was disappointing but praised his teammates for refusing to give up.
“It was a crazy game today. We conceded goals we shouldn’t have conceded, but I liked the spirit of the team for the comeback,” he said.
Fulham, who were chasing a third straight league win, trailed 5–1 at one point before launching a late surge inspired by Chukwueze’s electric display.
Chukwueze credited the team’s mentality, insisting the comeback was driven by the squad's belief and the unrelenting support from the home fans.
“For me, I always believe. If we don’t believe, we won’t score. Everybody believed that we could come back, the team, the coach and the fans,” he added.
He also praised the supporters for sticking with the team even when the game seemed out of reach.
He added, “The fans were amazingly, supportive from 5–1 to 5–4. We gave everything and I think we need to lift our heads and say we fought well.”
Despite the narrow defeat, Chukwueze urged his teammates to remain positive ahead of their next Premier League match.
“It was a difficult one to take because we wanted three wins in a row. But we’ll keep our heads up. We fought until the last minute and on Sunday against Crystal Palace, we’re going to give everything for the fans,” he said.
Chukwueze’s brace means he now has two goals and three assists in seven appearances for the club this season.
