Florian Wirtz opened the scoring for the Reds just before the interval, but Marcus Edwards' equaliser for the visitors secured a valuable point for Scott Parker's side.

Dominik Szoboszlai also missed a penalty, failing to secure the victory, as Liverpool won just one of their last four Premier League matches.

What Wirtz said

Speaking after the draw, Wirtz said, "Yeah, very frustrating," he said to the club's media. "We had enough chances to decide the game early. We missed that today. So, very disappointing. It feels like a defeat."

Wirtz acknowledged that while the team may have been unlucky at times, their finishing ultimately let them down.

"We have to be better in front of the goal. We scored one goal and that was not enough today. Some days are like this—you try everything but in the end it doesn't go in. We only take one point but... in the next game we go again and try to do better."

Liverpool will now turn their attention to the Champions League, with an upcoming trip to face Roberto De Zerbi's Marseille.

The Reds could be boosted by the return of Mohamed Salah, who is set to rejoin the squad after Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations campaign concluded with a fourth-place finish.
