‘It doesn't affect the team’ - Carrick urges players to block out fan protests and focus on Fulham clash
United are set to host Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday, where Carrick hopes to extend his perfect start following impressive wins against Manchester City and Arsenal.
However, the match is expected to take place amid a tense atmosphere. The fan group 'The 1958' has organized a pre-match march, with over 6,000 supporters anticipated to protest against the Glazer family and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The group holds Ratcliffe, who now controls football operations, accountable alongside the Glazers for the club's financial state, which includes an estimated £1.1 billion in debt and outstanding transfer fees.
Carrick speaks ahead of Fulham clash
Carrick has expressed confidence that the fans' anger towards the ownership will not spill over into their support for the team inside the stadium.
"It doesn't affect the team," Carrick said. "I fully respect the supporters. They're incredible. They have been for so long and had a lot of ups and some downs as well, but I'm not offended by it or anything, and the players certainly aren't."
He added that the atmosphere within Old Trafford has been exceptional. "Within the stadium, the support we've felt... has been of the highest level and I'm sure it will continue to be like that," he noted.
"The connection we've had over the last couple of weeks has been pretty special and we've both fed off that."
Carrick emphasized the need to build on the recent positive momentum. "Off the pitch, whatever goes on in and around the club, it's not really for us as a playing group to worry about and let that affect performances," he explained.
"We feel the utmost support from the supporters as much as ever, and that's where we want to keep moving towards."
The two victories under Carrick have propelled Manchester United to fourth in the Premier League table, reigniting their hopes of securing a Champions League spot with 15 matches remaining.
