I'm not a blue — Mourinho lays down the gauntlet ahead of Chelsea
Jose Mourinho insists that he will not be enveloped by the emotions of the occasion when he leads his Benfica side to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea tomorrow.
The 62-year-old is arguably the greatest manager in Blues history, winning three Premier League titles for the West London side. He is currently the head coach of Benfica. Ahead of the UCL clash against Enzo Maresca’s Blues, Mourinho stated that he is focused on beating his old club.
What Mourinho said
Mourinho no longer enjoys a god-like status at Stamford Bridge, having coached two of their rivals, Manchester United and Tottenham. However, he does not expect to be booed, as he has done before, when he coached the Red Devils.
"I don't think Chelsea fans will boo me. At least when I am on the street, they ask me for selfies and pictures,” he said, per Goal.
Instead, he suggested that having brought other teams to the Stamford Bridge on previous occasions leaves him to only focus on getting the win.
"I am feeling home. I already played here with Spurs, Manchester United and Inter,” he noted. “But I am not a Blue now. I am Red. And I want to win. I am expecting two teams wanting to win.
“Chelsea will only play for a victory, especially after losing the first game [against Bayern Munich]. We will have to defend well to win the game. Our tactical approach is to try and win the game.
"We have Chelsea, Real Madrid and Newcastle in this competition [the Champions League]. All these games are hard. So tomorrow we have to chase the points. Our Champions League fixtures are harder than Chelsea's games.”
