‘I would be left alone’ - Sevilla star claims he will miss Akor Adams when he leaves for AFCON
The Super Eagles star has made a name for himself during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where he scored two goals against Lesotho and Gabon.
His performance could prompt Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles head coach, to select the Sevilla star for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite primarily serving as Romero's backup under coach Matias Almeyda, the 24-year-old has found the net twice in league play from the bench.
Romero speaks about Akor Adams
While the two forwards compete for a starting role at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, Romero emphasised their strong off-pitch relationship and mutual respect.
"He is a great person, we’re very close," Romero stated in an interview published on Sevilla's official website.
"We help each other and compete with each other and try to make the best goals possible to help the team."
Looking ahead to the AFCON tournament, Romero expressed his support for Adams' international ambitions, promising to shoulder the offensive responsibility in his absence.
"I always wish Akor the best," he said. "It would be a shame if he’s away for so long because I would be left alone, but I will try to keep working and be there for the team and help in everything I can."
Akor Adams faces stiff competition for a spot in Nigeria's attack, a squad already featuring Napoli star Victor Osimhen.
