'I want him to score goals, win the Golden Boot' - Ighalo backs Osimhen
Former Super Eagles forward Odion Ighalo has thrown his support behind Victor Osimhen, urging the Galatasaray striker to remain focused on his primary role as a goalscorer and push for the Golden Boot at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ighalo made the comments during his halftime analysis on SuperSport, where he assessed Osimhen’s performance and overall contribution to Nigeria’s attacking play.
What Ighalo said
Speaking candidly, the former Manchester United and Watford striker emphasised the importance of Osimhen staying close to goal rather than drifting too deep.
“I want him to score goals and be up there as a striker. I want him to win the Golden Boot,” Ighalo said on SuperSport.
Osimhen has been in strong form for the Super Eagles at AFCON, scoring twice in Nigeria’s 4–0 win over Mozambique, a result that booked the team’s place in the quarter-finals.

His growing goal tally has also pushed him closer to Rashidi Yekini’s all-time Super Eagles scoring record.
