3 more goals to go - Osimhen close to breaking Yekini’s All-Time Super Eagles goal record

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is edging closer to rewriting history as he closes in on Rashidi Yekini’s long-standing goal-scoring record for the Super Eagles.

The Galatasaray forward took a major step toward the milestone after scoring twice in Nigeria’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Mozambique on Monday night.

The win sealed the Super Eagles’ place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Osimhen’s brace against Mozambique lifted his international tally to 34 goals, placing him just three goals shy of Rashidi Yekini’s iconic record of 37 goals for Nigeria.

Yekini, widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest strikers, set the benchmark during a glittering international career that spanned the late 1980s and 1990s.

With Nigeria progressing deeper into the AFCON tournament, Osimhen will have further opportunities to make history on the continent’s biggest football stage.

At 27, the striker is already Nigeria’s most lethal attacker of his generation, and his current form suggests Yekini’s record may soon fall if the Super Eagles continue their strong run in Morocco.
