Sevilla’s new head coach, Matias Almeyda, remarked positively about his Nigerian striker duo Kelechi Iheanacho and Akor Adams following their impressive performance in the pre-season friendly against Schalke.
Akor and Iheanacho shine against Schalke
As Pulse Sports reported, Akor Adams and Kelechi Iheanacho reminded Sevilla of their quality during the pre-season clash against Schalke, with three of Los Nervionenses' goals in the 4-2 victory coming from the West Africans.
Both strikers returned to the fold after rehabilitation and have immediately gone about proving their quality. Akor started against Schalke and scored a brace in the first half.
He was substituted in the second half for Iheanacho, who got himself on the scoresheet in the second half as Almeyda's side ran out 4-2 winners.
What Almeyda said
Adams and Iheanacho’s goals upon return from injury prompted questions to Almeyda about their performance. He had the following to say, “Everything is positive for the forwards to score goals because there's a way they can get their hands on the goal.”
“It’s true that the forwards thrive on goals, and that gives them confidence and motivation, but overall, I liked all the players.”
