He is the answer — Wenger tells Arteta best striker to sign to deliver trophies
Arsene Wenger, who managed the Gunners from 1996 to 2018 and remains the club’s most successful head coach, has shared his thoughts on Mikel Arteta's well-documented search for a goalscorer.
The club has been linked to the likes of Napoli's Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.
However, Wenger believes there is another name that must be under consideration: Newcastle's Alexander Isak.
The ex-Gunners boss revealed his admiration for the Swedish striker during a recent charity dinner, according to former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman.
“I had dinner with Arsène Wenger about three weeks ago,” Seaman shared on his Seaman Says podcast. “I asked him, ‘You’re the boss, who would you sign this summer?’ And straight away he said, ‘Isak.’”

Isak enjoyed a prolific 2024–25 Premier League campaign, scoring 23 goals and providing six assists in 34 appearances for Newcastle.
The stumbling block for any deal will be the reported asking price set by Newcastle, believed to be around £150 million.
The Gunners are unlikely to pay such a hefty fee and could turn to the cheaper, less proven Sesko, who is available for less than half of that.
Whether or not Arteta chooses to move for Isak, one thing is clear, Wenger is a big fan.
