He is one of the best — Barcelona legend raves about Liverpool's Darwin Nunez
Uruguayan legend Luis Suarez believes his compatriot is one of the best strikers in the world and that he deserves his slot in the team ahead of him.
Suarez, alongside Edinson Cavani, marked an era for The Sky Blue, but the pair have now been phased out for younger talents. The former Barcelona striker returned to the Uruguay set-up this past international break.
His role was more of a dressing room leader and a back-up striker, and despite it being a far cry from the position he once held, El Pistelero relished it.
What Suarez said
Nunez has been in inspired form for Uruguay this international break. He scored one of the two goals in the 2-0 downing of world champion Argentina, and in the following game, he scored twice in the 3-0 trouncing of Bolivia.
Suarez was an unused substitute in the Argentina game, but he came on in place of the Liverpool striker in the 73rd minute of the drubbing of Bolivia. Speaking after the game, Suarez, who was undoubtedly one of the best in the world in his pomp, sang praises for Nunez.
"I have one of the best No. 9s in the world ahead of me,” he said, referring to Nunez, per GOAL.
“We have to support him and enjoy him. Today I am in another role [than before] and I am happy to be here helping the group."
Meanwhile, English football legend Steven Gerrard goes back on his previous claim and names Ronaldo as the GOAT.
