He is an upgrade on Onana — Ex-Man United star raves about new goalkeeper
Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker singled out the Red Devils’ first-choice goalkeeper, Senne Lammens, for praise, crediting the Belgian for triggering his side's improved form.
Lammens was a largely unknown quantity when he joined Ruben Amorim's side in the summer from Royal Antwerp for £18 million. After a brief acclimatisation period, he immediately claimed the No.1 spot as Andre Onana was shipped off to Trabzonspor and Altay Bayindir delivered unconvincing performances.
What Parker said
Lammens has been solid between the sticks for the Red Devils. His stint as first-choice goalkeeper has coincided with Manchester United’s encouraging form under Amorim. Parker called him a difference maker, noting that he was a significant upgrade from Andre Onana.
"Lammens has definitely made a big difference for Manchester United,” he said, per Goal. “He is a massive upgrade from Onana. He looks confident, and Man United wouldn’t be where they are if they hadn’t brought him in.
“He is communicating a lot better than Onana, and the most important thing is that he actually looks like a goalkeeper. He can actually use his hands and make saves, which should be the most important thing for a goalkeeper, but Onana couldn’t do that.
"He is still very young, so he has a lot of room to grow as well, but I have been really surprised with the way he has come in and dominated in goal.
"For me, he has been one of the best signings of the season, and combining that with his potential, I think Man United made the right decision by signing him and letting Onana go.”
