Onana sent a message to Manchester United.

Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana has sent an emotional message to Manchester United ahead of the Chelsea fans.

Andre Onana made 8 saves on his debut for Trabzonspor.

Onana completed a season-long loan move to Turkish club Trabzonspor after slipping down the pecking order at Manchester United.

The deadline day arrival of Senne Lammens pushed Onana further out of Ruben Amorim’s plans, with the 28-year-old demoted from second to third choice, a situation he was unwilling to accept. United and the player swiftly agreed to a loan deal that will keep him in Turkey for the rest of the campaign.

Struggles at Old Trafford

Onana arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2023 as a replacement for David de Gea, but high-profile mistakes marred his time in Manchester.

Several errors in the Champions League group stage contributed to United’s early exit.

At the same time, a shock defeat to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup proved the final straw before the club intensified their pursuit of Lammens.

The Cameroon international struggled to win over both fans and management, eventually losing the trust of new head coach Rúben Amorim.

What Onana said

Speaking at his unveiling in Turkey, Onana reflected on his time at Old Trafford but stopped short of taking personal blame for United’s struggles.

“We don’t play individual sports. You experience both wins and losses together. You might not see certain details in victories, but those details come to the fore in losses,” he told CNN Turkey.

The former Inter Milan goalkeeper, however, expressed affection for United supporters, “I love the Manchester fans and have a good relationship with them. I wish them success.”

Onana made his debut in a 1-0 defeat to Fenerbahce, delivering a solid performance despite the result.
