'He is an idol for all of us' — Brazil legend Neymar picks Ballon d'Or winner
Brazil legend Neymar has thrown his weight behind Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr. to win the coveted Ballon d'Or award this year.
Vinicius is up for the award, alongside the likes of Manchester City's Rodri, Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham, Nigeria's Ademola Lookman and more.
In a recent interview, the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain forward revealed his support for the Brazilian winger.
Neymar backs Vinicius Junior to win Ballon d'Or
Vinicius is widely regarded as the frontrunner for the award after a phenomenal 2023-24 season with Real Madrid. Neymar, who had previously mentioned Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, and Vinicius as top contenders, has now endorsed his compatriot.
"Of course, I will be supporting him [Vinicius] to win the Ballon d'Or this year," Neymar said via Marca.
"For me, there is no other better candidate to win."
Neymar praised Vinicius's resilience and determination, highlighting his journey to stardom.
"He's a guy who deserves it because he's a fighter," Neymar emphasized. "He has suffered a lot throughout his life, but he has exceeded all expectations and criticism. He has become an idol for all of us."
The Ballon d'Or winner will be announced in Paris on October 28.
