He could be gone – Former Championship coach tipped to replace struggling Amorim

Ruben Amorim is reportedly fighting to save his job at Old Trafford following a dismal first ten months to his reign since replacing Erik ten Hag last November.

Manchester United were 14th when Ten Hag was sacked, but finished the last season in a worse position under Amorim.

The Red Devils' struggles have continued into the new season, where they remain in the bottom half of the table after justsix games.

While the Manchester United board still has faith in Amorim, that support could change if results do not improve before the next international break.

Former United coach Rene Meulensteen believes Amorim "could be gone" by Christmas, stating that his "stubborn" methods may leave the club with no choice but to make a change.

"Could Ruben Amorim be gone before Christmas? Absolutely, he could well be," Meulensteen told BetVictor.

"He also suggested a potential replacement should the club choose to sack Amorim. "Michael Carrick might be the obvious option if Ruben Amorim were to go," he added.

"Obviously Michael Carrick still knows quite a few players that were there when he was there. So he’s still got some good inside information."
