Ajilore, who was part of Nigeria’s silver medal-winning squad at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, said Chelle has brought renewed unity, structure and confidence to the Super Eagles, qualities he believes are crucial for sustained success.

What Ajilore said

Speaking in an exclusive interview with BSN, the former midfielder stressed that Chelle’s impact should not be judged solely by Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“We should not focus solely on what he won at the 2025 African Nations Cup. It’s not just about finishing third, but about the unity and coordination he brought back to the team,” Ajilore said.

Ajilore highlighted Nigeria’s overall performance at the tournament as a strong indicator of the coach’s positive influence, noting the team’s attacking efficiency and consistency.

“Scoring 14 goals in five matches and not losing a single game in regulation time at a tournament like the Nations Cup is something to be proud of. It has been a long time since Nigerians watched the Super Eagles with this level of confidence because of the way they approached each match,” he explained.

The former Olympian added that Chelle’s tactical approach and man-management have rekindled belief among players and fans alike, making a strong case for continuity.

“He has shown that he can do wonders with the Super Eagles if given a better opportunity,” Ajilore concluded.

Nigeria secured the bronze medal at the 2025 AFCON after defeating Egypt 4-2 on penalties.
