Guardiola reveals bizarre Julia Roberts 'secret' after memorable Champions League night
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed a strange regret he will always live with even if he wins the Champions League with City.
Guardiola and his Cityzens were in fantastic form after brushing aside German side RB Leipzig in the Champions League round of 16 at the Etihad.
Manchester City demolished Leipzig 7-0 in the Champions League round of 16 second leg tie for an aggregate 8-1 win to advance to the quarterfinal on Tuesday night.
It was a one-sided affair that saw Norwegian forward, Erling Haaland, score a perfect hat-trick in the first half en route to scoring two more in the second half to make it five goals against Leipzig on the night.
Guardiola reveals biggest regret
Following the memorable performance and result, Guardiola revealed a particularly big disappointment in his life so far.
Guardiola last won the Champions League during a dominant era at Barcelona but has failed the replicate that feat at Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
However, on the night of a statement outing from his City side in the Champions League, the Spaniard revealed that one of his idols, Hollywood superstar Julia Roberts’ decision to snub Manchester City for a visit to Manchester United will forever be a disappointment.
“I have three idols in my life: Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Julia Roberts,” Guardiola stated. “These are my three idols. For obvious reasons, Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods deserve it, and Julia Roberts as well.”
"I'm a failure in the Champions League, I'm sorry," he continued. “I'm going to explain a secret. Whatever happens this year in the Champions League, even if we win this Champions League or win three in a row, I will be a failure.”
On Julia Roberts’ visit to Old Trafford
“Julia Roberts, years ago, came to Manchester. Not in the 1990s, when Alex Ferguson win titles, titles, titles and titles. She came in the period when we were better than United, these four or five years,” he added.
"And she went to visit Man United. She didn't come to see us. So, even if I win the Champions League, it cannot compare to the fact Julia Roberts came to Manchester and did not come to see us."
"My idol. That's why no matter what happens, even if I win the Champions League, it will not make up for the disappointment I had."
