Hungry Haaland reveals why Manchester City signed him
Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has admitted that the English champions didn't bring him to the Etihad to win the Premier League but the Champions League.
Haaland made the admission after he completed a perfect hat-trick en route to an incredible five-star performance against RB Leipzig in the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday night.
He was in unstoppable form after scoring five goals as Manchester City defeated Leipzig 7-0 in the second leg to advance to the Champions League quarterfinal with an 8-1 aggregate victory.
Haaland makes Champions League admission
In what was a historic night for the former Borussia Dortmund star, he scored a perfect first-half hat-trick, the 17th of his career, before two more goals in the second half.
Haaland’s incredible performance saw him become the youngest player to score 30 goals in the Champions League at just 22 years and 236 days old.
He also became the third player to score five goals in a single match in the Champions League, a competition he admits he was signed to win for Manchester City.
Speaking after the game at the Etihad on Tuesday night, Haaland admitted that he was not brought to England to win the Premier League but Champions League.
“Of course, the club wants to win the Champions League, they want to still win trophies and won the Premier League four out of the last five years, ” he told CSB Sports.
“So, they didn't bring me to win the Premier League, they know how to win the Premier League.”
“I am here to help the club develop even more, to try to win the Champions League for the first time,” he added.
Following his performance on the night for Manchester City, Haaland has now scored 38 goals across all competitions this season for the Cityzens.
But it remains to be seen if he can lead the club to the elusive Champions League trophy, a feat his manager, Pep Guardiola has so far failed to achieve at the club.
