Enock Morrison struggled to assert himself in the midfield, frequently losing possession and making misplaced or blind passes that disrupted the team’s rhythm.

Despite advice and tactical adjustments, Enock Morrison was unable to turn his performance around, resulting in the coach opting for a substitution to stabilise the team.

Charles Akonnor on Substituting Enock Morrison

Charles Akonnor revealed that Enock Morrison’s performance early in the match fell short of expectations, leading him to make a tactical adjustment and reshape the midfield for better defensive balance.

He highlighted that the new setup helped stabilise the team and allowed the players to contribute effectively. Charles Akonnor stressed that, above all, the team’s success on the scoreboard was his main concern.

He pointed out that while individual form is noted, the ultimate goal is always securing a positive result. He also suggested that external opinions on his decisions are secondary compared to the team achieving victory.

“Morrison did not have a good day today from the beginning, so we thought of bringing in Fidel and having a midfield that is compact and also work defensively, and they did their best. Again, for me, nothing matters to me than winning. We did it…you can say whatever you want,” Charles Akonnor shared.

Charles Akonnor further explained that Enock Morrison is normally a key player for both defensive and attacking transitions, often responsible for delivering crucial passes that influence the game.

He noted that, during their match against Kakamega Homeboyz, Enock Morrison struggled to perform at his usual level despite receiving guidance on what was expected of him.

As a result, Charles Akonnor decided to substitute him at halftime to try and improve the team’s overall performance.

He emphasised that the decision was made with the team’s tactical needs in mind rather than as a reflection on Morrison’s abilities.

“It’s all about his game…he is one of the guys who are very instrumental, defensive and attacking, and he is the one who makes most of the important passes, and he has to do that,” he revealed.

“Today wasn’t a good day for him, and I was telling him exactly what’s going on, what he has to do, but we decided to remove him in the second half.”

Charles Akonnor indicated that lessons from the match, including tactical adjustments and substitutions, will be applied in their upcoming fixtures to ensure the squad performs cohesively.
