Club Brugge have announced that Raphael Onyedika will be available for AFCON.
The club made the statement on their official website on Monday. This marks Onyedika's second major tournament with the national team, following his participation in the 2023 AFCON, where Nigeria reached the final in Ivory Coast.
During that tournament, Onyedika's involvement was limited to a 27-minute appearance in the 1-0 group stage win against Guinea-Bissau.
However, his consistent performances at the club level have ensured he remains a key figure in the national team setup.
Onyedika set for big AFCON role with Super Eagles
Since his international debut in September 2022, Onyedika has accumulated 17 caps and scored one goal for the Super Eagles. He has been one of Nigeria's most reliable players in Europe this season, making 22 appearances for Club Brugge, including three in the UEFA Champions League, and contributing two goals and an assist.
Despite his strong club form, Onyedika faces stiff competition for a starting position under coach Chelle, who has often preferred Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka in central midfield. Squad Selection Nears Completion
Chelle's final 28-man squad is expected to feature a core of established players, as the head coach looks to make up for the nation's failure to qualify for the World Cup.
The 2025 AFCON kicks off on December 21. Nigeria will begin its Group D campaign against Tanzania on December 23, with Tunisia and Uganda also in the group.
