Chelsea beat the rest of Europe to signing the teenager earlier in the year and due to FIFA’s rule, he remained at Palmeiras and will make the move to Stamford Bridge next summer, after he has turned 18.

The 17-year-old has reached new heights this season for Palmeiras and is already one of the best players in the Brasileiro Serie A.

With eight matches to go in the league, Estevao is leading the Verdao’s title charge, and they are only one point and place adrift league leaders Botafogo.

Only Flamengo’s Pedro (11) has scored more than Estevao’s ten league goals this season, and the youngster leads the division in assists (8).

Chelsea's latest Brazilian wonderkid, Estevao.

He scored and assisted in the 5-3 victory over Juventude in the early hours of today, which took his goal contributions for the season to 18, effectively eclipsing Neymar, who held the record for the most goal contributions from an U-18 star in a single Serie A season (16).

What Neymar said

Estevao not only broke Neymar's record, he shattered it, as he crossed the ex-Santos star’s tally in far fewer games. The 33-year-old needed 33 games to reach 16 goal contributions, while Estevao reached 18 in 24 matches.

Reacting on social media, Neymar, who is a reference for this generation of Brazilian players, congratulated him for deposing him and wished him success in his career.

"Congratulations, Estêvão Willian for breaking the record! I hope you continue shining & enchanting people with your football. FLY,” Neymar shared on social media.
