Ex-Premier League star sentenced to JAIL for failing to pay ₦70 million alimony to his divorced wife
Former Premier League striker Bosko Balaban is set to serve a jail term after failing to pay the court-mandated £70,000 alimony to his wife, Iva Radic.
Balanban, 45, played in the Premier League for Aston Villa from 2001 to 2003 and retired from football in 2015. He currently works as a football agent, but will now have to put a pin on that as he is set for a period behind bars.
What happened
Balaban legally parted ways with his wife in 2017—with whom they share three kids, two daughters and a son—and with the divorce came mandatory alimony.
The former striker defaulted, and in 2021, he was given a conditional one-year sentence plus four years suspended.
According to the Daily Mail, the sentence was conditioned on Balaban making the necessary payments in a two-year sentence. The set time is now said to have elapsed and he has yet to comply.
This means the one-year sentence has been triggered, and he will serve mandatory time behind bars whether he goes on to make the payment or not.
