Ex-Man United coach beat Premier League clubs to signing of Super Eagles star
Besiktas have reportedly beaten the rest of the pack to the signing of Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi Samuel.
The 27-year-old has spent the last four years at Fernerbahce, and despite the Yellow Canaries’ best effort to keep him, they failed to reach an agreement on fresh terms.
Osayi Samuel's contract standoff
As Pulse Sports reported, Fenerbahce were keen on keeping him, even when he lost his place in the starting lineup following Jose Mourinho's shift to a back-three formation.
They have tabled multiple contract offers to the former QPR man since last summer, all of which he rebuffed, seeking improved terms.
Fenerbahce tried until the end but couldn't convince the Nigerian with an offer he was happy to accept. However, according to Ekrem Konur, he has accepted the terms of Besiktas, who had the best financial offer of all his suitors.
Besiktas shrug off competition
While his contract situation with Fenerbahçe remained unresolved, he received offers from multiple English sides, including Crystal Palace, Leeds United, Nottingham, and Southampton.
There were also rumours that Super Lig champions Galatasaray were interested. However, it would be another Istanbul club, Besiktas, who managed to complete the deal.
