Ex-Arsenal star defends Sesko using Thierry Henry
Former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott recently referenced Premier League Hall of Famer Thierry Henry in his assessment of Benjamin Sesko’s time at Manchester United.
The Slovenia international joined Manchester United in the summer transfer window for a whopping £74 million. However, he has only scored two Premier League goals in 616 minutes on the pitch.
His struggles extended to the 2-2 draw against Tottenham this weekend, which drew criticism. Walcott joined in the criticism of Sesko's performance but believes he has time to improve.
What Walcott said
Speaking after the game, Walcott said he believes Šeško will be just as self-critical about his performances as he himself used to be during his playing days.
"As a forward player, I’d always be my biggest critic. How many crosses did I get in? How many shots did I have? Did I beat my man?” Walcott said, per Goal.
“Benjamin Sesko isn’t contributing much at the moment and Manchester United don’t seem to be playing to his strengths. But there is still time.”
Walcott referenced other strikers who struggled at the start of their Premier League careers, like four-time EPL Golden Boot winner Henry, who failed to score in his first eight matches.
"I remember when Thierry Henry came to the Premier League – he was a shadow of the player we remember now. I also played with Olivier Giroud – he took about 10 games to really get going, and not many people remember that. We could all see what type of player he was going to be in training."
