Everton welcome back Super Falcons star with flowers after securing WAFCON title

Women's Super League side Everton gave a hero's welcome to their Nigerian midfielder, Toni Payne, following her historic win with the Super Falcons at the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). 

In a touching video shared on their social media, Everton players and staff are seen presenting Payne with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and rapturously applauding her achievement. 

This warm reception comes after Nigeria's thrilling 3-2 victory over hosts Morocco in the WAFCON final, a result that secured the Super Falcons their 10th continental title and cemented their status as the dominant force in African women's football.

Payne, who joined the Toffees in mid-2024, played a crucial role in Nigeria's successful campaign. 

Her contribution to Everton in the 2024-2025 season was notable, with her making 22 league appearances, scoring one goal and providing five assists. 

Toni Payne's international journey has been a remarkable one.

 Born in the United States to Nigerian parents, she initially played in the American youth system. 

However, in 2019, she made the significant decision to switch her international allegiance to Nigeria.

This heartfelt decision has clearly paid off, with Payne now a continental champion.

The celebration of the Super Falcons' win has been a worldwide affair, with the team receiving a massive and emotional reception upon their return to Nigeria.

The Super Falcons' victory was nothing short of spectacular. 

Nigeria found themselves two goals down at halftime in the final against Morocco. 

The home crowd was in a state of euphoria, but the Super Falcons showcased their legendary fighting spirit in the second half, mounting a stunning comeback. 

Goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and a late winner from Jennifer Echegini sealed the 3-2 win, silencing the Moroccan fans and bringing home the trophy.
